Here's what I need: an MP3 files manager where I can sort my MP3 collections, create playlists, edit tags, add/manage streams, and play MP3s? I have over 23GB of MP3s, with several dozens CDs (all containing MP3s of all sorts of music). Is there anything app better than rhytmbox?

So now I'm playing with FreeBSD and Sourcemage. While FreeBSD is easy, Sourcemage on the other is a pain - well, at least at the moment for me - and this is due to the lack of documentation. The wiki has not been much help. Well, at least I can install ssh (cast openssh), but I have no freaking idea how to start it as a service. This is damn frustrating! The Oracle ain't much help either, and I suspect that I will have a hard time trying to get myself familiar with Sourcemage. The situation is so much different from Gentoo, especially its superb documentations and forums. Anyways, Sourcemage seems to offer some functionalities that Gentoo does not have, and that is exactly why I'm testing it out.

After a bit of tinkering, I managed to get fbsplash and software-suspend2 working on my notebook with gentoo-sources-2.6.11-r6. And the result is just sweet. Both works like a charm, without any problems at all. All you need is the latest gentoo-sources. I use gentoo-sources since I cannot get fbsplash to work with vanilla-sources. To get fbsplash working, all you need to do is follow this guide. Now, to get software suspend to work, get the correct source from here. The version that you need is 2.1.8 for Linux kernel 2.6.11. Untar the patches, and follow the steps below:
$ cd tmp $ tar xjvf software-suspend-2.1.8-for-2.6.11.tar.bz2 $ cd /usr/src/linux $ for i in /tmp/software-suspend-2.1.8-for-2.6.11/*; do patch -b -p1 < $i; done
After that, all you need to do is compile the kernel. The steps to do so is available here. NOTE: using the apply script will not work.
