[ this is a fan boy review ]

at last, the movie that goes back to its basics: the great hong kong movies of the 80s:
sha po lang. this movie has it all: no-nonsense plot, great action and kungfu, badass characters, badass cops, badass triad boss, ample violence, and my favorite instrument of torture and death: the
japanese tanto.
heck, it even has a badass character who, apparently, has the same fashion sense as
alexander 'alex' de large in the clocwork orange.
there's the badass sammo hung , who plays a baddass triad boss. i am getting tired of the characters created by the infernal affairs trilogy, and sammo hung's wang po screams i'm a badass all the way through.
there's simon yam, who, as a cop, is even a badder ass and has got more bad ass attitude than bruce willis in that airplane hostage movie, or samuel l jackson in shaft.
and there's wu jing, a wushu champion, who uses the tanto to perfection, which makes him an icy-cool-ultra-violent bad ass gangsta.
and then there's donnie yip who will surely win more female fans this time around than daniel wu. he's so bad ass: the best fighting scene was the baton vs tanto in the alleyway. the moves are very natural, instead of choreographed. in the scene, both fighters continuosly studies each other's movements, and adapt their fighting strategies after studying the opponent. simply superb.
the end fighting scene, while a little bit over the top, contains some awesome grappling moves by both sammo hung and donnie yip.
the rest don't matter: what i mean by the rest is the other characters: the wives, the child, the beach and the sea, the regret, the wrongs and the rights. this is the baddest ass movie hong kong has offered me this year. go watch it. (spoiler: there are no hot chinese chicks in this movie).
damn, i feel so bad ass now.
