[this is a uh-huh-whatever post]
- if i'm not mistaken, borders were playing sigur ros the other day.
- i was listening to some live tracks by coldplay, and i'm agreeing with jsmooth that they're miscellaneous.
- the whole thing about sarawak tribune (yes, it was a grave error of judgement on the editor's part) seems to be clouding another issue: the cops shaving 10 senior citizens for playing mahjong. also, this might be of interest: mohammed cartoon released in egypt last year during ramadhan. more ironic was the fact that the attacks on danish embassy had unwittingly, reinforced the prejudices of the detractors of islam.
- the flu bug has hit me (in addition to the stomach ache since, like, the last 24 hours), and someone decided to knee my ball (the left one) at futsal. and the heat wave is expected to continue till march.
- paul graham on how to do what you love. provocative and profound, as always.
and finally, an obligatory picture of marion caunter looking rather stoned:

last.fm sez that i've listened to 2 kilosongs since dec 20. that's an average of 44 tracks per day. assuming that the average length of the tracks are 5 minutes, so that's 220 listening minutes/day or 3.6 hours/day. only 3.6 hours. so for those of you who think that the only thing i do all day is listening to music, you're all wrong! WRONG! wrong! wrong! i do read books and watch dvds, and the occasional impromptu scratchings of the balls. anyways: top overall artists: dj krush (199), dj shadow(80), lyrics born(61), a tribe called quest(60), krafty kuts(57), beastie boys(55), depeche mode(55), the herbaliser(55), tricky(51), and tool(50).

do it to me baby! aha! aha!
- current obsession: krafty kuts.
- wikipedia has a list of electronic artists and DJs.
- trance:
Trance is a form of music best characterized by quarter note drum patterns, and 16th/32nd note rhythm synthesizer patterns. It has a meter of 4/4, with a quarter note bassdrum acting as metronome, and quarter note high-hat hits on upbeats. This unwavering drum mechanism may be constantly tweaked with for effect, with the Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release (ADSR) all given liberal treatment. The tempo is generally around 130-158 beats per minute (bpm).
and techno music:
Techno features an abundance of percussive, synthetic sounds, studio effects used as principal instrumentation, and, usually, a regular, 4/4 beat usually in the 130âÂ
much has been said about this movie - which earned itself best hong kong film and the johnie to the best director award. however - the movie itself is a snub. the storyline is a simile to the political issues affecting hong kong and china - and of course the rest of the world that "practices" democracy. the director seems to emphasize this by having no guns, not even one, in sight. to instead replaced ammos with briberies, extortions, special favors and back stabbings - familiar political ammunitions that are used during election campaign.
despite its political theme, the movie has its own share of gratuitious violence, and an array of interesting characters. these characters are the uncles - who must vote to find the next chairman of the triad society. the most interesting among them is the embarrassingly corpulent uncle teng played by wong tin lam. other than this, the rest of the supporting characters are just so-so. simon yam as usual, plays himself. notable is tony leung, who plays big d.
well, this is not so much of a review - but if you want to watch the democratic process take place in a triad election go ahead and get this movie. if you just want to watch some cool triad movie, go ahead and get election.

there's preg_replace and preg_replace_callback. question is, why can't one pass a callback function to preg_replace like so: preg_replace("/some patterns/", some_function($matches), $string_to_match) instead of a separate function? isn't that more functional and elegant? i chance upon preg_replace_callback while trying to achieve the above, but i wonder why the callback functionality was not build into preg_replace in the first place? luckily for preg_replace_callback, i don't have to implement my my own preg_replace with a callback support.
the existance of these two almost-similar functions shows that php is a language that needs to grow up.
