If the person knows what they're doing, they should know that -msse and -m3dnow options are already turned on by -O3 and cputype options (they're already turned on in -O2 and correct cputype).
With those optimization settings, if anything breaks you will not get help and will look real bad when you do post your problems. Not to mention, making it impossible to track your own bugs in your programs. For a neglible speed increase you waste a few days to find out that random exceptions and unexplainable SIGSEVs are due to a broken compiles.
True, but try telling that to a Gentoo freak
Just yesterday I've experienced a broken compile.
